SAFE vigil for chickens

On August 17, 2013, SAFE held a vigil in Aotea Square to highlight the plight of the 90 million chickens farmed and killed for meat every year. 90 activists each held the body of a chicken who had died on a factory farm.

Farmwatch supported SAFE on this action by collecting the dead chickens from farms across Auckland.

The bodies were buried during a small ceremony at an animal sanctuary. Their grave will become a memorial garden dedicated to the 90 and to the chickens who are being slaughtered every day in New Zealand after a short life of misery and cruelty.

Chickens raised for meat live a life of constant suffering right from day one. See our Chicken farming page for further information.

The best way to help us put an end to this cruelty is to choose compassion over cruelty and stop eating animals! Visit safe.org.nz for more info.
